So Shabby Pink DIY with Serger and New Ruffle

Sewing.  Our moms did it or at least mine did.  She was as good as any professional seamstress, for sure.  Because of her, I learned to sew.  I don't ever remember sitting and taking lessons from her.  I just watched and learned.

I have recently purchased a 60 year old, Singer 915 Centennial sewing machine to do heavy duty work like welting for slipcovers and pillows.  It is a work horse!  It sits beside my 35 year old Kenmore!  They are both testaments of the durability of good 'ol American made products!

Back to mom - In order to create nice seams that did not fray, my mother used pinking shears and then sewed a straight stitch over the jagged edge. It was fairly effective but not very pretty.

That said, there is a wonderful modern machine our moms did not have!  The SERGER!  Let me show you what it does!  Here is the end result of making some pretty ruffle for my very cool cell phone purses.

PRETTY ROUGH, huh??

Isn't that just beautiful!
If you have some picture of your latest sewing projects, we would love to see them!

Also, if you are interested in learning to sew, www.craftsy.com/ provides online classes for a very small fee.

So Shabby Pink - I love Housey Blogs! Share your favorites!

I LOVE housey blogs!  I love seeing how others decorate their homes.  Guess that is why I love estate sales so much.  We get to go inside!! I love seeing renovations, especially those with before and after pictures.  I love the fact that blogs let us see into others' homes without even taking one step out the front door.

Here is one of my favorite DIY bloggers.  I mean, she is truly a DIYer!  She has power tools!

http://www.thriftyandchic.com/

Her entry, "Shabby Chic Framed $5 Door Mirror" is a good example.

You can read how she did this HERE.

I really do admire folks that are not afraid to express their own ideas, even if they are different from everyone else.

Hope you will subscribe to her blog!  She does post frequently and it never disappoints!  GREAT DIY blog!

I would love to see what your favorite blogs are!  I never get enough.  Post a comment and share!

So Shabby Pink New Wall Decor

I know it's back to school time for all the kids.  That hopefully will free up some of you ladies to do some things you may have had to put aside this summer.  ALSO, cooler weather is on the way!

It's still so warm here that some of our flowers are still blooming.  This is an Angel Trumpet.  It blooms during the cooler hours and they fade away during the warmer part of the day.  These blooms are about 7 inches long!

One of our newest wall plaques.

I am trying to find time to make pillows!
Hope all are doing well.  Thanks for stopping by.

So Shabby Pink - Have You Seen This Fabric ?

Hello!

I posted this picture a little while ago talking about how much I love this room.  No, it's not mine but I surely can try as hard as I can to reproduce it.

I need y'all's help.  I am looking for the fabric in this pillow pictured below.  I have been searching the internet for a long time.  I've looked through Etsy, Ebay, and lots of fabric websites.  The flowers are dogwoods and the background looks gray.  I am not sure if it is bark cloth or not.

If anyone out there finds this somewhere, would you let me know, please?  I would forever be grateful!

Hope you are having a good week!

So Shabby Pink Estate Sale Love

I guess anyone with a business name with the word "shabby" in it, loves to go to flea markets and estate sales.  That includes me! I know there must be lots of you out there too.

These are the latest gadgets I found.  Vintage whisks! The first one...oh, I just love.  Most modern whisks are rounded at the end but this one is flat.  It allows you to whisk in the corners of the pot!  I love that.  I am making gravy here and am able to get to every inch of the bottom of the pan. Nice!

So Shabby Pink - Cottage Shabby Coastal Everything I Love Room !

I just LOVE this room!  I have seen this picture more than once in my favorite magazines, Romantic Country and Romantic Homes.  The colors are so appealing.  The vintage bark cloth pillow is just the perfect touch.  So shabby chicy. So coastal. So peaceful.

My problem is that I am fickle.  I mean really fickle.  I might create a room just like this and then see something else I like and might even be ready to change it all out by the time I finish the first color scheme!  Am I the only one like this?  It's kind of frustrating!

I want to make a room like this for our home!

I hope all of you are well.  I decided to go for a bike ride in this 102 degree weather but I take plenty of water and my CELL PHONE!  I laugh when I think about that as I did get overly zealous last summer and had to call my husband to come rescue me.  Me dork sometimes.

Have a happy Thursday evening!

So Shabby Pink - Time for Winter Planting

I love plants....inside and outside.

Last summer, I planted some seeds of an ANGEL TRUMPET plant and it came back this spring much larger than it ever got last year!

For perspective, those blooms are about 6"-7" long!  They evidently are quite hardy as it is surviving the hot Texas summer.  It got almost as tall as me so I had to cut it back.  It really is beautiful!

It's almost time to plant some things for fall. It's so dang hot here that we have two full growing seasons.  Long ago, I had tomatoes in December!

Hmmmmmm, what shall I try to grow?  I have so much shade in our yard that I am going to try containers like a family member, Kimberly, did.  She grew some awesome cucumbers in a 5 gallon bucket with a wick for watering and a pole in the middle for the plant to climb.

As long as the container is large enough to give the roots enough room to grow to support a healthy plant, I guess you can use just about anything.  I picked up some 5 gallon buckets at our local grocery store in the BAKERY department. Icing buckets!  They will give them to you for free but you get to clean out the leftover icing!  Okay!

I love these old watering pots.
We will see what happens!

So Shabby Pink - Satisfying my Need for Turquoise

I found this pretty throw at Wal-mart back before Christmas.  Oh, my!  It is the softest throw I have ever found.  It's not a full sized blanket but large enough to cuddle up under and keep warm.  One side almost feels like velour and the other side is white, fluffy and soft.  It was a particularly good buy at less than $18.  Thank you, Wal-mart!!

Thank you to all my customers!

I truly want to thank all of my very patient customers.  I had an unexpected week long stay in the hospital in January and, unfortunately, left orders behind that needed to be filled.  Every single wonderful lady was so understanding and kind.

MANY THANKS!  I am doing so much better now!

Thanks for dropping by,

Peggy

My goodness!  Happy New Year!

So far, 2013 has brought some big surprises....7 days in the hospital!  Ugh. That was not fun.  I am on the mend now and working slowly to catch up.  Thank you for all the patience from my sweet customers.

This year, we will continue to offer all of our original styles.  With time and some fun imagination, we hope to add some new things.  There are so many different craft mediums that I really long to work with.

I love to sew and have some plans in that area. :-) Are any of you like me in that if you see a piece of fabric you like, you may get it even if you don't know what for! Going to try to put some of those pretty pieces to use. Oil up that sewing machine!!

CUTE!  I've been making some of these adorable cell phone purses lately.  Over the years, I have collected fabric and lace and have so much I want to use.

There is a very brilliant rhinestone piece in the center of the rose.  Just love the look.  This is a great present for a good friend or even for yourself.

This chic little purse measures: 9" X 5-3/4"

Zipper is at top. Big enough to carry your phone, ID, keys, compact and lipstick too.

This bag is available on our website So Shabby Pink.

So Shabby Pink - I am craving blue!

Aren't these pretty colors? I have started to crave blue, for some reason.
So, I checked out some fabrics from Calico Corners. They have a new system now where you can bring home large pieces, like even a yard or two! It is so much more helpful than those tiny little swatches they cut for you in most fabric stores.

You can also order free 6" samples! I got mine in the mail last week and i have just kept them arranged and laid out so I can see them each time I walk through this room. Very peaceful colors.

Checked out these large samples of fabrics. These colors are so soothing.

Thanks for stopping by,

Peggy
